Pun-derful 1st Birthday Themes!
A first birthday is a huge milestone for your little one and is the perfect occasion to gather your nearest and dearest to celebrate just how much they’ve grown! It’s important to ensure that the occasion is a day full of smiles, memorable moments and most important of all, fun! Check out our top ideas for Pun-derful 1st Birthday Themes to add some extra zing to their special day!
One-der the Sea
What could be better than a One-der the Sea theme! Whether it’s adorable sea creatures, beautiful mermaids or sunken treasure, this theme inspires a myriad of creative and inspiring ideas.
Decorate with splashes of sea green, turquoise blue and shimmers of purple, and set up fun activities for the kids (and adults) like sandboxes filled with sunken treasure to dig up or bubble blowing contests! Keepsakes can be in the form of buckets and spades either to use on their next beach visit, or filled with a few take-home snacks.
Why not ask your guests to dress as their favourite sea creatures and create your own little eco-system of fun while enjoying a slice of sand-castle themed birthday cake!
Adventures in One-derland
"Curiouser and curiouser!" While a traditional Alice themed party is always on trend, an Adventure in One-derland theme can be adapted in many ways to add One-der to a first birthday party!
Inspired by Alice, let guests discover adorable white rabbits hidden in the garden or finger-paint paper roses red. Dot the tables with oversized balloon flowers and multi-coloured confetti to add colour to a table laden with ‘Eat Me’ tea-party themed snacks and ‘Drink Me’ beverages in various colours and sizes.
If you prefer a broader theme, create your own feelings of wonder with an enchanted twist, bringing in elements of magic through bright pops of colour, unicorn themed balloons and a Master Magician – anything that will encourage your guests to dream big and often!
Sun’s Out, One’s Out!
Since the day they came into this world they have been your little ray of sunshine, so what better theme to brighten their day – just be sure to have plenty of sunscreen at the ready!
Go bold with hues of yellow and orange to create a vibrant atmosphere with paper butterflies for pops of colour. Incorporate elements of Summer by setting up colourful blankets on the grass where guests can enjoy picnic themed snacks such as fresh fruit and cool pitchers of lemonade.
Invite your guests to cloud gaze or see what pictures they can pick out as the clouds drift by! Daisy chains are a creative and unique alternative to a party favour, which can be threaded with a variety of flowers and ribbons and worn throughout the day. For a livelier pastime, set up pin-the-sunglasses-on-the-sun or have a go at a sun-shaped pinata!
If a day at the beach is more reminiscent of Summer for you, this theme can be easily adapted to include these elements. Swap out picnic blankets for brightly coloured towels and set them up under big umbrellas for shade, with inflatable beach balls at the ready for some beach-themed games!
